Duration: 60 Days | Region: Baltoro Glacier, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Organized by PakJourney – Your Trusted High-Altitude Expedition Partner

Overview

Broad Peak (8,047m), locally known as Faichan Kangri, is the 12th highest mountain in the world, located in the mighty Karakoram Range of Pakistan. The name “Broad Peak” was given due to its massive summit ridge, stretching over 1.5 kilometers in length, making it appear flat and broad when viewed from afar.

Situated just a few kilometers from K2, Broad Peak shares its access route via the Baltoro Glacier and Concordia, the famed amphitheater of giants where four 8000ers stand in close proximity: K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II.

Unlike K2’s technical brutality, Broad Peak is more straightforward but still very challenging, especially above 7,800m where climbers face wind-blasted ridges, ice walls, and unpredictable weather.

Climbing Legacy

The first successful ascent was made on June 9, 1957 by an Austrian team including Marcus Schmuck, Fritz Wintersteller, Kurt Diemberger, and the legendary Hermann Buhl—without supplementary oxygen or high-altitude porters, making it a monumental feat in alpine-style climbing.
