Overview
The Nangma (Nagma) Valley, nestled deep within the Karakoram Range near Kanday village, is one of the most breathtaking and underrated rock climbing destinations in Pakistan. Surrounded by dramatic granite walls, towering spires, and grassy meadows, the valley offers an ideal setting for alpine rock climbers seeking both beauty and bold ascents.
This expedition focuses on independent climbing objectives, allowing climbers the freedom to scale various routes based on their skill and ambition. The highlights of the valley include iconic formations like:
- Amin Brakk (5850m) – Also known as the Great Tower
- Great Tower (approx. 5800m) – A soaring granite spire of global fame
- Dozens of unnamed granite walls and towers, still waiting for first ascents
Set at a stunning base camp location surrounded by granite giants, this is the perfect environment for technical climbs, training, photography, or high-altitude rock exploration.
Historic Background
The exploration of this region began in 1887 with British surveyor T.G. Mintugmere, who navigated through Baltoro and Saltoro Glaciers, discovering key passes like Belafond Pass.
In 1909, an Italian expedition led by Amadeo Guiseppie documented and explored the Karakoram and Siachen regions. Further British surveys in 1925, 1947, and 1958 expanded the knowledge of the Baltistan climbing zones, but Nangma remained a hidden gem for decades.
Today, it is emerging as one of the world’s most beautiful and untouched alpine climbing locations.
