Overview
Spantik Peak, also known as Golden Peak, stands tall at 7,027 meters and is one of the most accessible and beautiful 7000m summits in the Karakoram. Named “Sapang-Tik” in the local language meaning “Little Garden,” Spantik lies between the Nagar Valley near Hunza and Arandu in Baltistan, offering one of the most scenic and achievable high-altitude climbing experiences in Pakistan.
This peak has seen rising popularity due to its ease of approach, excellent base camp access, and relatively straightforward climbing route through the Chogolungma Glacier. Often recommended for climbers progressing from 6000m peaks or preparing for 8000m expeditions, Spantik offers a balance of challenge, technical interest, and high summit success rate.
The South East Ridge, Spantik’s normal route, is a long and gradual snow climb, making it suitable for strong trekkers and intermediate climbers seeking their first big Himalayan summit.
Highlights
- Summit one of the most scenic 7000m peaks in the Karakoram
- Ideal for climbers looking to step up from trekking peaks
- Accessible base camp with only 3 trekking days from Arandu
- Stunning ridge climb over snow, ice, and high camps
- Great for both independent mountaineers and guided expeditions
Historic Note
The first recorded attempt on Spantik was in 1892 by a large expedition, while the successful ascent via the southeast ridge became popular over the decades. Today, over 80% of expeditions reach the summit, a remarkable success rate for a peak of this height—testament to its manageable gradient and relatively stable weather patterns in peak season.
